21 Day and 20 night Tour Package of Cape Town, Wine Route, Garden Route and Klein Karoo

  • Day 1 (Arrival)
    Arrive Cape Town; transfer to B&B/Guest House or Hotel. Settle in and relax after your long flight.

  • Day 2 (Cape Town City Tour)
    The tour starts with a ride in the cable car to the top of Table Mountain for a spectacular view of the whole of the Cape Peninsula. If the weather is not permitting we drive to the top of Signal Hill to get a general view of Cape Town. We then drive through Cape Town for a view of historic buildings and stop off at The Castle and have lunch at the V & A Waterfront. After lunch, we visit the historic Malay Quarter including the Bo-Kaap Museum, The Company Gardens and the South African Museum to see the Khoi/San exhibition and then stroll down Government Avenue past the Houses of Parliament to Church Square.

  • Day 3 (Robben Island Tour)
    Morning of leisure-free time In the afternoon we take the ferry to Robben Island where we are taken on a bus tour of the island including the prison where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated.

  • Day 4 (Cape Peninsula Tour)
    Includes a scenic drive through Sea Point, Camps Bay, and Landudno to Hout Bay. From there we go to the Groot Constantia Wine Estate to visit the historic home of Simon van der Stel, and then via Ou Kaapse Weg and the scenic western seaboard route to Cape Point Nature Reserve, where we have lunch. We then return via False Bay stopping at the Penguin Colony at the Boulders and pass through Simon's Town, Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay.

  • Day 5 (Winelands Tour)
    We first visit the old Cape Dutch homestead on the Spier Wine Estate, and then take a drive through Stellenbosch, founded in 1679, second oldest town in South Africa, stopping off at various historic sites. We then visit two estates just outside Stellenbosch for wine tasting and a cellar tour. From there we proceed over the Hell's Hoogte Pass via Pniel to Franschhoek for lunch. In the afternoon we visit the Huguenot Memorial and then on to one or two more estates for wine, brandy and/or cheese tasting (depending on the preferences of the group)

  • Day 6 (Free Day of leisure)
    Guests will be taken to town or the beaches in the area. (This is included in package price, but is optional)

  • Day 7 (Birding and Botanical Tour)
    In the morning we visit the wetland areas of the Strandfontein Wastewater Disposal Works and Rondevlei Bird Sanctuary, where there are over 200 bird species. You will see at least 40 different species including Grebes, Herons, Flamingos, Pelicans and many others. We then go to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens (we won Gold again this year at the Chelsea Flower Show) for lunch and enjoy the Cape fynbos, indigenous trees and look for endemic birds such as the Cape Sugarbird, Orangebreasted Sunbird, and many others.)

  • Day 8 (Transfer by air-conditioned vehicle or Fly from Cape Town to George)
    Guests will be collected at accommodation facility and will continue along the very scenic R44 to Hermanus, for an orientation tour and whale watching, if the whales are in the area. Lunch can be enjoyed at one of the local restaurants. We then continue onto Cape Agulhas, southern most tip of Africa, where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. Here we visit the nature reserve and the Light House Museum. We overnight at Cape Agulhas or Struisbaai.

  • Day 9 (Day of leisure included in package price, but optional)
    Enjoy the morning relaxing at Guest House and strolling along this very scenic coastline. Light Lunch at the Lighthouse Restaurant. Dinner at one of the local restaurants. (Lunch & Dinner to own account)

  • Day 10 (Klein Karoo Area)
    Depart accommodation at 09h00 and continue along the N2 to Albertinia where we stop at the Aloe Ferrox Factory for an informative talk on these wonderful products. The tour then continues to the Eight Bell’s Inn, which is at the foot of the Robinson Pass, for lunch. After lunch we depart for Oudtshoorn via the scenic Robinson Pass. A guided tour of Safari Ostrich Show Farm can be enjoyed before booking into accommodation facility.

  • Day 11 (Klein Karoo)
    Depart accommodation at 09h00 for a guided tour of the Cango Caves, one of the 23 cave systems known to be in the Swartberg Mountains. In Oudtshoorn we visit the Cango Wild Life Ranch, with its cheetahs (at an extra cost and if you are 16 years or older, you can even touch the tame cheetahs), lion, white tigers and many other animals. Lunch can be enjoyed at the Ranch. We then continue to George via the Outeniqua Mountain Pass. Stopping at the Four Passes View Point. We then book into accommodation facility.

  • Day 12 (George)
    Depart accommodation at 09h00 and visit St. Marks Cathedral said to be the smallest cathedral in the Southern Hemisphere. British design by Sophia Grey and consecrated in 1850. We then proceed for a trip up the Outeniqua Mountains in the Outeniqua Power Van, which has glass windows allowing our guests to experience forest and four passes, waterfalls and tunnels, fynbos and proteas, bird and animal life and a picnic lunch with a spectacular view. On returning to George, guests can walk through the Heritage Railway Museum. Heritage Railway Museum, housing a large collection of steam engines, vintage cars and South African railway history. Lunch at one of the Railway Museum Restaurants. Dutch Reformed Church, which took 12 years to build and was taken into use in 1842. Main features: Yellowwood ceilings, door made of teak, stinkwood pulpit and yellowwood pillars. This is also a National Monument. ‘Slave Tree’ with chain imbedded in it.

  • Day 13
    After breakfast we depart at 09h00 for Knysna, stopping at Dolphin’s View Point, the indigenous wood furniture factory and the scarib paper factory. On arriving in Knysna lunch can be enjoyed at one of the local restaurants. Book into accommodation facility. Free afternoon, transport will be available for those wishing to walk around the shops in Knysna.

  • Day 14
    Depart accommodation facility at 09h30 and continue to the St. George Anglican Church, we then view John Benn’s pilothouse from which ships were guided into the harbour through the Knysna Heads. We continue to the view points of the world famous ‘Knysna Heads’. We then board the John Benn Ferry for a 1-½ hour trip on the Knysna Estuary and enjoy the view while having lunch. Some of the most beautiful pictures can be taken of the Knysna Heads from the ferry. The Ferry takes the tourists as close as possible to the mouth of ‘The Heads’, weather permitting and then back to the harbour. Time permitting, a walk around the Knysna Water Front where you can look at many little shops and buy momentos for loved ones. Return to accommodation.



      


  • Day 15
    Day of leisure, transport will be provided for those wishing to go into town or for lunch transfer.

  • Day 16
    Depart accommodation facility at 09h00 and continue through Natures Valley, where we take a scenic drive. We continue through the Bloukrans Forest and over the Pass. We then stop at the Paul Sauer/Storms River Bridge (opened in 1956), which was designed by Richardo Morandi, of Rome, a single cantilever bridge, 186m long and stands 120m above the waters of the Storms River. 30 years after the bridge was first opened, it was widened and now incorporates a walkway on both sides of the road, a great tourist attraction. We take a walk over the bridge and look down at the breath taking view. We stop for a walk through the forest and visit the Big Tree, an 800-year-old yellowwood as well as the Fallen Tree, also a yellowwood, indigenous to South Africa. The tour then goes onto the Tzitzikamma National Park for lunch. After lunch, our tourists have about an hour and a half to walk around the park, which has breath-taking views of the sea breaking against the rocks. If you would like to, you can walk along the boardwalk up to and over the hanging bridge, which crosses over the Storms River. Book into accommodation facility for the next two nights.

  • Day 17
    Day of leisure to be enjoyed in this very scenic area.

  • Day 18
    Depart accommodation facility at 09h00 and continue along the N2 stopping at Monkeyland, a primate sanctuary, for a guided tour, where you walk through the forest amongst the animals. We then continue onto Plettenberg Bay for a scenic drive stopping at the View Point on Signal Hill. Lunch Continue on to Robberg Nature Reserve for a leisurely walk. Robberg consists of beautiful rock formations, fossils, an excavation site in a cave; seals, fantastic flora and shipwrecks can be seen in the ocean below. (This hike is for fairly fit people for those not wishing to do the walk, the beautiful scenery can be enjoyed from the view point). The tour then proceeds to Knysna where we overnight.

  • Day 19
    Depart accommodation facility at 08h45 and proceed to the Knysna station where you board the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe (only steam train still in operation in South Africa) and enjoy the ride back to George. Lunch at one of the local restaurants. Free afternoon, transport will be available

  • Day 20
    Depart accommodation facility at 09h00 and continue to Mossel Bay where we visit Maritime Museum housing the replica of the Bartholomew Dias Ship, which landed in Mossel bay in 1488. Old Granary, which houses the information centre and a display of, labelled wild flowers from surrounding areas. Post Office Tree, a 500year old milkwood tree, which was used by passing ships as a mail collection point. The mail was placed in a boot hanging in this tree. Today you will find a post box in the shape of a boot, where you can post a letter. A special franking mark, in the shape of a boot, is stamped on any mail posted in this box. St. Blaize Cave was inhabited many years ago by the Khoi/San and is today a national monument. Lunch will be enjoyed at the game farm. Guided game drive through Botlierskop Wild Game Farm, where lion, rhino, buffalo, giraffe and a large variety of buck, birds and flora can be seen. This is a must for any tourist visiting the area! (Lunch included)

  • Day 21
    Flight from George back to Cape Town International Airport in time for your connecting flight back home.
